I was really exited when I got to sit down with Kristine and Anthony because right away it was very clear, this is a couple that love photography! It was a natural fit and the ideas quickly started flowing. We decided we wanted to mix things up with  San Diego classic Balboa Park and end things with some thing a bit more unique, The Salk Institute in La Jolla. It was a blast shooting with this amazing couple!

Mimi and Sujay

Mimi and Sujay celebrated their wedding with two ceremonies: a traditional Indian ceremony at the groom’s home on Saturday, followed by a more western celebration at the Wilson Creek Winery (embeded link:http://www.wilsoncreekwinery.com/) in Temecula on Sunday.

Mimi and Sujay, we were honored to be there for your special weekend.  Thank you and your families for their warmth and hospitality.  Your wedding weekend will hold a special place in our memories!

2013 is shaping up to be the best year yet for Michael Lawrence Photography!  A huge part of that is due to the tremendous hard work of the very talented Rachele Watkins. For the past year she has been working with me as a free lance photographer. Her skill, attention to detail and deep love of all things wedding ( and ability to keep me on my toes) has help take us to a whole new level. So  I am very excited to announce that Rachele is now officially joining the MLP team as a associate photographer! I’ll let her tell you a little about her self in her own words.

So the top 3 things you need to know about me are:

1.      I’m a newlywed who absolutely loves all things wedding. Especially the details. I looove the details.

2.      I love my husband. And I love my camera.  Just don’t make me choose, ok?

3.      I love to laugh. A lot. And I especially love it when others laugh around me and my camera!

Your wedding day should be one of the best memories of your life.  Everyone you know has gathered on this one day to support you and your spouse-to-be and to welcome the beginning of your new lives together.  I’d love to have the honor of being one of those people.  Well, me and my camera of course!

So let’s get together already!  We’re going to have a great time.  And we are probably going to laugh. A lot.

Deja and Pam’s Twin photo shoot….. San Diego Photography

Last weekend I got to help Stephanie Sherwood of Pink Chique Makeup Artist add another amazing month to her 2013 Calender to benefit Spine Project Africa.  Deja and Pam were an absolute pleasure to work with! There amazing beauty is only matched by their kind hearts, volunteering their time and talents to help our military and those in need. The only thing better then working with one of them, is working with both of them!

Tyrone and Nadege sneak peek

This weekend’s wedding is so amazing I’m simply left with out the words to describe it. So I’ll let the photos do the talking until I have the time to write a proper blog post. Congratulations Tyrone and Nadege and thank you for letting me be a part of it!

Additionally it was a great honor to be in the presence of Pastor Miles McPherson of  The Rock Church as he officiated the beautiful ceremony.

Over the last few weeks I have been working with Stephanie Sherwood of Pink Chique.  Stephanie is a very talented make-up artist who is creating a calendar to raise funds for charity.  I will have much more information on that in an upcoming post.   When she told me about this balloon inspired shoot she wanted to do I instantly knew which couple I wanted for it.

I met John Hull, a brilliant San Diego singer/song writer,  a couple years ago while I was photographing  a comedy show in the Gaslamp at the Tipsy Crow.  He took the stage as the opening act for the first thirty minutes, this guy’s so good that I almost forgot people were there for something else! Now of course being a singer he always gets a lot of female attention ( I hate musicians).  He’s also recently  taken up disarming machete wielding psycho’s barehanded in dark alleys. OK OK  I know it sounds like I made up that last part but its true I swear, Google it! Personally I think he’s just showing off now. ( I really hate musicians)

As great a guy as John is I was extremely happy when he met Sarah. A very lovely and powerful woman in her own right she keeps him grounded and inspired. Together they are simply an amazing couple and I was profoundly grateful for the chance to work with them.

OK, for the record  I was just kidding about hating musicians…. mostly.

If you liked John and Sarah’s photos your gonna love his music, stop by and give him some love on his facebook page http://www.facebook.com/johnhullmusic and his website http://www.johnhullmusic.com

Mohawks, Skulls and Tattoos oh my!

So by now everybody knows how much I love weddings… (probably more than the average guy should).   Whether the wedding is super traditional or ultra-modern it’s always  wonderful to be a part of two  people joining their lives together. What I find really exciting however, is when a couple is brave enough  to really let their wedding reflect who they are.  With that being said Alicia and Clint are fearless!    When I talked to Alicia about her wedding she told me they were going to have Asian elements with black skulls, oh and the groom has a serious Mohawk! I loved it! They embraced who they are, and it shines through in every image!

She Had skulls on every thing… I was very impressed!Come on… you know you wanna jump on the bed in your wedding dress

I have never been so excited to get awesome high lights in a Mohawk!

Tyrone and Nadege Paparazzi Engagement Photography…. San Diego wedding photographer

A little over a year ago I got a call from my good friend Mal Hall… He told me that  his long time  friend  Tyrone, was going to pop the question to his girlfriend and asked if he could  hire me to capture it all on film. Of course!! I loved the idea and was 100% in! Then he added… “ oh yeah, he’s gonna do it in Cabo. Is that a problem?” …. “ Ummm….nope!”

I couldn’t wait to call my wife and tell her “ Honey, you won’t believe this, I just got booked for a engagement shoot in Cabo!” She quickly replied with “ No…. WE …..got booked for an engagement shoot in Cabo.” I said the only thing a husband could say at that point, “ Yes dear.”

After meeting with Tyrone and listening to his plan to ask his beautiful girlfriend Nadege to marry him, I was more excited than ever. It was so clear in the way he spoke her name how much he loved her and what this meant to him.  The only problem was that Nadege had met me a time or two at other events I had photographed, so I had to lay low. I spent the first day walking around the resort in Cabo in a hat and dark glasses playing the tourist with the obnoxiously large camera. I have to admit I may have gotten a little too into the roll of undercover photographer. More than once my wife had to remind me I was not Jason Bourne, nor a secret agent.

Finally Tyrone set his plan in motion.  With my amazing wife acting as a spotter I hid behind a large rock while Tyrone brought Nadege to a beautiful private dinner table on the sand.  It was one of the most beautiful moments I have ever had the privilege to photograph. The photos below say it all. Thank goodness my beautiful wife was there to fend off a group of women passing who started yelling at me, thinking I was a paparazzi taking pictures of a celebrity!

The next day we went back to the beach for a more formal engagement shoot Fast forward a year. Tyrone and Nadege told me they wanted to have a few canvas prints made for their wedding reception and asked if I would take a few more pictures…. Absolutely! So, gentlemen before you ask her that big question…give me a call… She’ll thank you for it! And Ladies, make sure your guys see this!
